Parallax
Also called: parallax scrolling, depth layers.
Layers move at different speeds as you scroll: far things slowly, near things faster. That speed difference makes a flat page feel deep.
Scroll inside the box. Far layers move slowly and near layers move fast, so the flat picture feels deep.

Say it in a prompt
Make a parallax section with layers (sky, far hills, headline, near hills) that move at different speeds on scroll. Keep it subtle, and turn it off when the user prefers reduced motion. Where it shows up
- Travel and storytelling pages where a mountain or city photo is split into layers that slide at different speeds as you scroll.
You might describe it as
- background moves slower than the page
- layers moving at different speeds when scrolling
- 3D depth effect on scroll
Not to be confused with
- Scroll-linked animation
Parallax moves layers at different speeds; scroll-linked animation ties any motion to how far you've scrolled.
